Reversal

Author: Stephen W. Cote

Great fear strikes the heart when

You commit another sin

Rage and bile boil and swell

Compatriots condemn you to hell

Palsy grips your belly and spine

Weakness wracks knees and mind

Dementia clouds speech and sight

Void of feeling, pitched to plight

Tensile nerves of trust quiver

Into a bone-rattling shiver

Magnanimity shrouds

Vile souls in midnight clouds

Rancor divides friend from friend

Wallow in despair until the end

Or reassess guilt approved

Realize blame should be moved

Ensnared by bonds, deceit and lies

Soiled in defecation, choke on flies

The bastard born, tossed and spun

Wilts beneath an honest sun
